Total Health Care Foundation awards $150,000 grant during Rocket Mortgage Classic PGA tour supporting digital inclusion
(Detroit, Mich. - June 27, 2023) – The Total Health Care Foundation awarded the Rocket Giving Fund a $150,000 grant to benefit Connect 313, a collaborative organization that improves citywide digital inclusion efforts.
A check presentation will take place during the AREA 313 Celebrity Scramble, a pre-event for the Rocket Mortgage Classic PGA tour. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, June 27, and will be held at the Detroit Golf Club.
Formed as part of the merger agreement between Priority Health and Total Health Care, the Total Health Care Foundation is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of the people of Detroit by investing in organizations dedicated to serving the needs of the community. As of June 2023, the Total Health Care Foundation has distributed more than $11 million in grants to organizations throughout Detroit and Southeast Michigan.
The COVID-19 pandemic amplified the digital inequities in the City of Detroit, limiting thousands of Detroit residents from having access to the internet, tech skills training and digital devices. According to Microsoft’s Digital Equity Data Dashboard, more than 30% of households in Wayne County do not have access to a desktop or laptop, or broadband internet.
Priority Health and the Total Health Care Foundation are committed to improving health equity across Michigan through their partnerships and investments.
“Digital access has been labeled a ‘super determinant’ of health, playing a role in the traditional social determinants of health: education, employment and health care access,” said Shannon Wilson, executive director of the Total Health Care Foundation. “By bridging the digital divide, Priority Health, The Rocket Giving Fund and Connect 313 are working to reduce health disparities and creating a healthier tomorrow throughout Detroit.”
The Rocket Giving Fund, the nonprofit that administers the Rocket Mortgage Classic, collaborates closely with Connect 313 partners Microsoft, United Way for Southeastern Michigan, Rocket Mortgage and City of Detroit. It provides internet, technology and digital literacy program access to all residents of Detroit within a 10-minute walking distance from their home.
“On behalf of our dedicated Connect 313 partners, we are grateful for the Total Health Care Foundation’s generous donation and commitment to supporting Detroit’s digital inclusion efforts,” said Laura Grannemann, executive director of the Rocket Giving Fund. “This commitment will prepare Detroit residents for a technology-focused future and help build neighborhoods that embrace advancements in digital programs and tools.”
